Intensive Care &
Coronary Care Unit
OCMC's eight bed telemetry unit provides specialized care for surgical, heart, and acute care patients. Capabilities include: non-invasive hemo dynamic monitoring, management of ventilator patients, telemetry monitoring and coordinated cardiac care, evaluation and monitoring.
Laboratory & Bank
Offering complete laboratory facilities under the direction of skilled pathologists and maintaining adequate blood bank supplies in cooperation with the Red Cross. Other services include: Chemistry, Hematology, Bacteriology and Serology.
Nutrition Department
The nutrition department at OCMC is directed by a Registered Licensed Dietitian. Each patient is screened for nutritional risk during their admission and nutritional intervention is initiated to optimize the patients medical nutrition therapy and promote
healing. Nutrient and drug interactions which could affect the patients recovery are closely monitored. Medical nutrition therapy is available by physician's orders as well as through outpatient services.
The food service staff serves 250 meals yearly to patients, as well as customers who avail themselves of the well prepared foods served daily in the cafeteria where one can also receive therapeutic menu selections.
The staff has over 30 years experience in the catering department which prepares foods for weddings, birthday cakes, holiday events, civic organizations, church functions, or banquet meals. No event is too small.
Obstetrics
At Ouachita County Medical Center we help make dreams come true every day. Our OB wing is the most advanced in south Arkansas. Averaging over 400 deliveries a year, it features a labor room, three newly remodeled labor/birthing rooms and a
state-of-the-art computerized central fetal monitoring system that allows our nurses to continuously monitor contraction patterns and fetal heart rate. Our 13 bed nursery has two neonatal units and an isolette to provide optimum care of the infant after delivery. Gynecological surgery is offered and our nursing wings features 14 private rooms for pre and post obstetrical patients.
Pediatrics
OCMC's pediatric wing is designed to provide special extras for our young patients. We believe the presence of the parent is conducive to the healing and emotional security of a child. In an effort to encourage parental participation in the care
of their child, each patient room is equipped with a pediatric patient bed and an adult bed for parents.
Complimentary meals are also provided for one parent during thei child's stay. The pediatric wing includes a playroom and patient rooms are furnished with VCR's . Our nurses maintain a library of children's videos for the enjoyment of our patients.
